As per the National
AIDS Control Organisation's monthly update after surveillance
as on 31st May 2005, The total number of AIDS cases in India
is 109349( Males- 77457 and Females- 31892. Of this large
number 4525 cases (2822 male and 1703 female) have been
detected in the month of May 2005 itself. A state wise breakup
of the AIDS cases identified indicates that the highest
numbers of cases are in Tamil Nadu (52036), Maharashtra
(13402) and Andhra Pradesh (11819). The lowest incidence
is in Daman and Diu (1), Jammu & Kashmir (2) followed
by Tripura (5). However the prevalence of AIDS has been
found to be non existent in Arunachal Pradesh, Chattisgarh,
Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Jharkhand Lakshadweep and Uttaranchal.
In this statistical gamut 128 AIDS cases have been identified
in Orissa. Further in Orissa the prevalence of AIDS is through
Truckers, Commercial Sex Workers, Drug users, and Bi-sexual,
Homosexual and Heterosexual activities. The districts that
the spread of the HIV is mostly seen are- Ganjam, Khurda,
Puri, Bhadrak, Rayagada, Koraput and Cuttack. Arupa Mission
Research Foundation in its attempts to spread awareness
regarding AIDS and sensitise people towards treating AIDS
affected persons with dignity has been organizing AIDS awareness
camps in different parts of Orissa. Dr. Swami Arupananda, Chairman AMRF, Mr.Anup

Mr. Saurav Bose, New Jersey AID for AIDS, Dr. Shakti Mishra,
AMRF Sensitized and spread awareness on AIDS on the
23rd of April 2005 at Hanumancheswar, Salepur Block, Cuttack
district.
