 ‘TECHNO COMMERCIAL OPPERTUNITIES IN HARNESSING SOLAR POWER’
 IN
ORISSA.

 
  • Date & Venue of the Work shop – 22-09-09 at Biju Patnaik energy Park Auditorium, Bhubaneswar, convened by Arupa Mission Research Foundation & Vikash.
  • The discussion was initiated by Sri Ashok Nanda of Vikash, who explained the Mission of the work shop and stressed that it is much delayed by the State of Orissa in encouraging solar power generation, though the state has excellent resources for solar Power. Vikash has conducted a detailed district-wise survey of solar Insolatiion which demands implementation. Sri Nanda cited the burning example of Portugal, a country with zero potentials of energy generation one time now ready to export energy to the neighbouring countries. He proposed Sri Vivek Patnaik, Hony. Chairman of CESU to preside over the work shop, which was unanimously seconded by all the members of the house.
  • Swami Arupananda of Arupa Mission Research Foundation  in succinct narrated the countless amount of energy that can be harnessed from Sun and wished that this work shop be the start of the mission for motivation for generation of power from Solar source in Orissa.
  • Mr. Nicholas, a German student of M.Tech. has done the survey of Solar Insolations in the state of Orissa vivdly district wise and presented the house in two tiers with his findings. Comparing the scenario of Germany and Orissa, he proved that Orissa has better resources than Germany; only thing needed is exploration of the resources.
  • Prof. Dr. S.M. Ali of KIITS made the house aware of the Solar energy with cost economics and the advantages over the dwindling fossil fuels through a case study. He informed house about his efforts of energy conservation in university hostels through Solar Energy.
  • Sri Bivas Panda , Principal Scientific Officer, MNRE informed about the  Financial Incentives and the subsidies available from Govt. of India on Solar Power generation. He described at length the potentials in the country and the role of MNRE in dissemination of different gadgets of Solar energy.
  • Sri S.K. Jena, Former Member of OSERC, explained the existing policies in Govt. of Orissa for Power generation. Sri B.C.Jena, Former Chairman, GRIDCO and Former Member of OSERC further clarified the stand of Govt. of Orissa and the directives to different energy Buyers and the Purchasers and the Distributors.
  • Sri C.V.Krishna of Creat, summed up the deliberations and came out with proposal of formation of a “Forum” for initiation, representation and awareness of Govt. of Orissa for a decision on power generation through Solar Energy. This was unanimously agreed upon by all the Members of the House.
  • Sri Vivek Patnaik spoke on the techno commercial oppertunities of Solar Power. The amount of Solar Energy incident on earth in a day can meet 100 times the Annual requirement of the world.

The following decisions were taken:

  • Name of the forum shall be “Green Energy Forum”
  • Sri Vivek Patnaik was unanimously elected as the Chairman of this Forum.
  • Other Members drafted in were:
    • All the Developers of Solar Energy/Power Generation in Orissa.
    • Vikash, NGO.
    • Arupa Mission Research Foundation, NGO.
    • Sri B.C.Jena.
    • Sri Sanjay Dhawan, TATA BP Solar
    • Sri Prasanta Panigrahi of Gayatri solars & BEL
    • C.V.Krishna. Creat.
    • Dr. S.N.Patro, President, Orissa environment society.
    • Prof. Dr. S.M. Ali, KIITS

The Forum will meet in the first week of October ’09 to decide further course of action.

The meeting concluded with the thanks giving by Sri P.C.Dash of Arupa Mission Research Foundation.
